Your experts, right in Slack

Chat with your Portable experts in any channel, DM, or thread. They bring their full memory and knowledge wherever you are.

Three ways to talk

Pick whichever feels natural. They all work the same way.

Direct Message

Find Portable Expert under Apps in your sidebar and message it directly. No setup, no prefix — just type.

What's on our roadmap this quarter?
Cre8tivor, what's the team working on?

@mention in a channel

@mention the bot in any channel it's been invited to. Everyone in the channel sees the expert's response.

@Portable Expert what do you think?
@Portable Expert Scout, review this plan

Slash command

Works everywhere — channels, group DMs, your own DM. No bot invitation needed. The expert's response is visible to everyone.

/portable what's the status?
/portable ask Scout give me a summary

Choosing an expert

Address any expert on your account by name. If you don't specify, it goes to the default.

By name (comma)
Scout, what do you think about this?

Most natural. Works in DMs, @mentions, and slash commands.

By name (colon)
Sandwich Executive: how’s it going?

Same thing. Comma or colon — your call.

Ask subcommand
/portable ask Cre8tivor what’s new?

Explicit slash command syntax for when you want to be precise.

Default expert
What’s on the agenda today?

No name = goes to whichever expert the workspace has set as default.

Good to know

👋

Invite the bot to channels

For @mentions to work in a channel, invite the bot first: type /invite @Portable Expert, or go to the channel header → Integrations → Add apps. You only need to do this once per channel.

💬

Group DMs? Use /portable

You can't invite the bot to a group DM, but /portable works there just fine. For a group that uses @mentions often, create a private channel instead.

🧵

Threads keep context

Reply in a thread and the expert remembers the whole conversation. Start a new thread for a fresh topic.

🧠

Memory works everywhere

Your experts carry the same memories in Slack as they do on portable.expert. Conversations in Slack build memory too.

🤖

Each expert has their own face

Experts respond with their own avatar and name, so you can tell at a glance who answered. This works in DMs, channels, and slash commands.
