Three ways to email

All emails go to @my.portable.expert. Pick the style that fits.

Direct address

Put the expert's name in the To field. Simplest way to reach a specific expert.

Email chat@my.portable.expert and name your expert with @ in the first line of the body. Most flexible.

Addressing your experts

Use hyphens for spaces in names. Add an account name with + if you’re on multiple accounts.

Single name
scout@my.portable.expert

Goes to Scout on whichever account it finds first.

Multi-word name
sandwich-executive@my.portable.expert

Hyphens become spaces. Matches "Sandwich Executive".

Specific account
scout+sandwich-video@my.portable.expert

The + scopes it to a specific account. Useful if you have experts with the same name on different accounts.

Chat directive
chat@my.portable.expert

Start your message body with @Scout or @Scout @Sandwich Video to target an expert and account.

You send an email

From any email client — Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, your phone. Send it to the expert's address at my.portable.expert.

We find the right expert

The system matches your email to your Portable account, routes to the right expert, and cleans up signatures and quoted text.

The expert responds — in chat and by email

The response appears in your Portable chat and arrives in your inbox too. Same memory, same context, two places to read it.

Reply to keep going

Hit reply in your email client and it routes back to the same chat thread. The expert remembers everything from the conversation so far.

Forward any email to an expert and they'll read the full forwarded content. Great for getting a quick take on something you just received.

Replies stay in the thread

When you reply to an expert's email, it continues the same chat thread. No need to start over — the context carries forward.

Multiple accounts? No problem

If you have experts on different accounts, use the + syntax to be specific: scout+my-team@my.portable.expert. Without it, the system searches all your accounts.

Don't want an email reply?

Type "no reply" anywhere in your message and the expert will respond only in your Portable chat, not your inbox. By default, every email gets a reply.

Signatures are stripped

Email signatures, "Sent from my iPhone", and quoted reply text are automatically removed. Only your actual message reaches the expert.

Verified by your email

Only emails from addresses registered with Portable are accepted. If someone else emails your expert, it won't go through.
